NOT JUST ANOTHER CANCER CHARITY

The Cure Starts Now represents something truly different. For us it’s not about fighting just one cancer, but the elimination of cancer as a whole. We believe as the experts do; that in order to truly cure cancer you have to focus on those cancers that are the biggest bullies like DIPG. The Cure Starts Now is the first cancer charity dedicated to this “homerun cure.”

How HE impacted us all

Joshua was a sweet boy who had his own special way of making people smile. After courageously fighting an aggressive Stage 4 brain tumor, he passed away on June 2, 2013. We miss him tremendously and appreciate you following us on this journey.

Advancing Research

We are teaming together with local children's hospitals to directly support research doctors that are on the path to finding new and better treatment options.

Helping Others

We have experienced the extreme challenges of treatment and hospitalization. We offer assistance to families who have a child receiving treatment for brain cancer, so they can make the best of the time with their children during this difficult time.

Kellsie’s Hope was started by Kellsie Marchbanks during her second round of cancer treatment. After her passing in June 2011 of Osteosarcoma, the Marchbanks family formed Kellsie’s Hope Foundation Inc, to celebrate the life of this remarkable young woman and to continue the work she started from her hospital bed.

Our mission is to provide hope to families that have children suffering from cancer by offering support for trips and gifts that might otherwise be unattainable. We are also dedicated to raising awareness and funds to support childhood cancer research and support the education of healthcare providers with an annual nursing scholarship.

OUR GOALS

  • Provide education for holistic lifestyles
  • Provide burial assistance for bereaved families
  • Funding innovative research for less toxic treatments for children with brain tumors
  • Supporting parents/caregivers through our "Tranquility Tote" program
  • Spread awareness of childhood cancer and the devastating effects it has on the whole family

Dedicated to curing leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and other blood cancers, we are now The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), the world's largest voluntary (nonprofit) health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services.

Since 1949, we’ve invested nearly $1.3 billion in groundbreaking research, pioneering many of today’s most innovative approaches. We work tirelessly to find cures and ensure patients can access the lifesaving treatments they need. When someone experiences the fear and uncertainty of a cancer diagnosis, we provide hope, compassion, education and support. And we are making an impact in the cancer community.

Our Beginning

Love Your Melon was founded in an entrepreneurship class at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota by two friends, Zachary and Brian, who wanted to start a business with a meaningful and positive social impact. On a mission to improve the lives of children battling cancer since October 22nd, 2012, Love Your Melon began with the simple idea of putting a hat on every child battling cancer in America.

Our Growth

After achieving the original goal of giving 45,000 hats — one for every child battling cancer in America — Love Your Melon set a new goal of giving one million dollars to pediatric cancer research and providing immediate support to children and their families. To date, we have given over 8.3 million dollars to the fight against pediatric cancer and over 200,000 hats to children battling cancer.

50% of Profit Given

Fifty percent (50%) of net profit from the sale of all Love Your Melon products is given to nonprofit organizations around the world that lead the fight against pediatric cancer. Together, we create therapeutic experiences and fund charitable programming initiatives for children and families battling cancer.

Tens of thousands of volunteers, donors and supporters advance the Make-A-Wish® vision to grant the wish of every child diagnosed with a critical illness. A wish can be that spark that helps these children believe that anything is possible and gives them the strength to fight harder against their illnesses. This one belief guides us and inspires us to grant wishes that change the lives of the kids we serve.

Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, Make-A-Wish is the world’s leading children’s wish-granting organization, serving children in every community in the United States and in 50 countries worldwide. Learn more about the power of a wish at wish.org.

Mesothelioma in children and young adults is extremely rare. Young people may develop mesothelioma through secondhand exposure from a parent working around asbestos. The symptoms, treatments, and poor prognosis are generally the same for children as adults.

OUR MISSION is to provide critical funding for cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital through our annual cycling challenge. It is our hope that research funded by Pedal the Cause will ultimately lead to a cure for cancer.

Founded in 2009 with the bold model of using 100% of public donations to fund world-class cancer research, Pedal the Cause has quickly become the gateway to curing cancer – all cancers, for everyone. In this period of diminished federal funding where support typically gets funneled to already proven concepts, many potential new ideas are not deemed eligible. Pedal the Cause donations “seed” best-in-breed ideas at our beneficiaries to allow the cultivation of proof of concept and critical data. These seeded projects often turn into groundbreaking results that lead to new treatments and cures, preventions, and early detection diagnostics. Additionally, donations from Pedal the Cause make a positive economic impact in the St. Louis community as stronger research funding will continue to support this high profile and critically important segment of the St. Louis economy.

Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. From trauma victims and patients undergoing surgeries to individuals battling cancer and those with chronic illnesses, the demand for blood is constant and ever-present. Yet, the supply often falls short of meeting this critical need.

We hope that our map will make a tangible impact in the lives of others in need by:

1. Spreading awareness about the critical importance of blood donation

2. Eliminating the entry barrier of not knowing where to safely donate blood

3. Encouraging individuals to make a habit of donating blood

KEEPING FAMILIES CLOSE

The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities of St. Louis is to provide comfort, care and a home-away-from-home for families of seriously ill children.

Our objective is to enable families to practice family-centered care by providing them with all of the basic comforts of home.

How it Started

I was photographing a fundraising event for Make-A-Wish. There was a woman in her early 30’s who had her wish gra nted when she was 14. She grew up in Miami Beach, and her wish was to go snow skiing. She’d never felt snow, never seen it in person, but that was her wish. The family stayed in a cabin halfway down the mountain and they’d ski out in the morning and ski in at night. For that week, she wasn’t sick. She was so distracted by doing something fun that she didn’t have time to think about the battle with her health.

About that same time, a friend of mine on Facebook posted an edited photo of his son dressed as a superhero doing superhero things. His son wasn’t battling an illness, it was just a really cool photo he edited, but it made me wonder… What if we could do something like that for kids battling cancer? What if we could distract them for 15-20 minutes during a cool photo session? What if the parents were also distracted, and were able to just watch their kid be a kid for a change, instead of their child battling a terrible disease?

Why We Exist

The realities of childhood cancer...

Worldwide, 300,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. And in the U.S., more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease—more than AIDS, asthma, cystic fibrosis, congenital anomalies and diabetes combined.

"Stupid Cancer helps to empower everyone affected by adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer by ending isolation and building community through a wide selection of programs. Attend a Digital Meetup, register for a Webinar or browse the Stupid Cancer Story Library to make connections with others who "get it"."

A Thousand Ripples Warrior Retreat is a retreat providing educational, relaxation, and re-connection services for warriors. Our mission is to provide a low- or no-cost opportunity for All Service Members, Veterans, Cancer Patients, Cancer Survivors, and their families at workshops and weekend-long retreats in Central Missouri.
